在這星期二晚間（當地時間）進行的美國總統大選候選人辯論會中，Mitt Romney與現任總統Barack Obama討論了許多熱門議題，從移民問題、稅收計劃到外交政策等等。整個辯論越到後面越來越激烈， 尤其是在後半，主持人Candy Crowley問到了另一個科技產業的熱門話題的時候⋯⋯
iPad, the Macs, the iPhones, they are all manufactured in China,the major reasor is labor is so march cheaper. How do you convince a great American company to bring that manufacturing back here?
iPad、Mac、iPhone，這些產品全部都是在中國製造。主要的原因是勞力成本非常地便宜。您如何說服一個最棒的美國企業將製造業帶回國內？
首先回答這個問題的是Mitt Romney⋯⋯
"The answer is very straightforward. We can compete with anyone in the world as long as the playing field is level. China's been cheating over the years. One, by holding down the value of their currency. Two, by stealing our intellectual property, our designs, our patents, our technology — there's even an Apple store in China that's a counterfeit Apple Store, selling counterfeit goods. They hack into our computers. We will have to have people play on a fair basis, that's number one. Number two, we have to make America the most attractive place for entrepreneurs, for people who want to expand their business. That's what brings jobs in.
答案很簡單，只要環境是公平的，我們就能與世界上的任何人競爭。中國已經作弊做了很多年。第一，他們掌控著他們的貨幣價值；第二，他們竊取我們的智慧財產權、我們的設計、我們的專利、我們的技術。在中國，甚至還有仿冒的Apple Store，裡面販售著仿冒的產品。他們還侵入我們的電腦。我們必須讓人們在公平的基礎上進行競爭。
至於Obama的回答，則是非常地直接了當（會不會太直接了點-_-"）⋯⋯
"Candy, there are some jobs that are not going to come back. Because they are low wage, low skill jobs. I want high wage, high skill jobs. That's why we have to emphasize manufacturing. That's why we have to invest in advanced manufacturing. That's why we've got to make sure that we've got the best science and research in the world."
Candy，有些工作就是不會回到國內。因為那些是低工資、低技術的工作。我想要的是高工資、高技術的工作。這就是為何我們必須將重點放在製造業，必須將資源投入在那些先進的製造業上。同時，也是為何我們必須確保我們擁有世界上最佳的科學技術與研究計劃。
"If we're not training engineers to make sure that they are equipped here in this country, then companies won't come here. Those investments are what's going to help to make sure that we continue to lead this world economy, not just next year, but 10 years from now, 50 years from now, 100 years from now."
如果我們不在這個國家培訓工程師並確保他們能夠準備妥當，那麼企業就不會來到國內。這些投資將會確保我們能夠持續領導世界的經濟，不僅僅只是明年，而是從現在開始的十年後、五十年後、甚至是一百年後。

比較簡單的解釋，Romney似乎是想從中國開始下手，而Obama則是從國內開始做改變，Obama的看法這似乎也和去年二月與Steve Jobs會談時討論的內容相符。
雖然我對美國大選不是很熟，不過感覺上雖然Obama的看法似乎比較有道理，不過Romney的做法似乎比較會受一般鄉民選民的歡迎⋯⋯大概吧？
